Summit Station’s on Spaceweather.com!

“Fast and Furious” Aurora Display

In this 2011 photo, the aurora borealis is seen rising over Summit Station's Big House. Photo: © Ed Stockard. Used with permission. All rights reserved.

At Summit Station high up on Greenland’s ice sheet, Ed Stockard and a small team have started the first phase of the long winter season, which stretches from late August until mid-April. In addition to overseeing activities supporting instruments and experiments for National Science Foundation- and NOAA-funded researchers, buttoning up summer facilities, and conducting a thorough overhall of station inventories and infrastructure, Ed has his eyes on the sky.

And Spaceweather.com has its eye on Ed, and thus Summit Station, for its photo of the day feature! See Ed’s aurora gallery on Spaceweather.com.
