Arctic Field Training, June 26 & 27 2013

It’s not too late to register for next week’s Arctic Field Trainings at Toolik Station!

There is no charge, and the trainings will be held all-day, Wednesday June 26 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and a two-hour course, Thursday June 27 (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.). To register, contact Dana Truffer-Moudra, dana@polarfield.com; 907.455.4245.

Just what will you learn?

Well, have you ever wrestled a bear? Started a fire with two sticks?

If so, you know you don’t want to have to do it again. The Arctic Field Training course, sponsored by CPS, will teach you how to avoid those situations.

Full day courses will cover some/all of these topics:

  • Bear safety
  • Threats to life
  • Hypothermia and heat exhaustion
  • Lightning
  • Dressing for the field
  • Staying found
  • What’s in a survival bag
  • Water treatment
  • Starting a fire
  • Helicopter safety
  • Thinking about risk

Two- hour courses will cover these topics:

  • Bear safety

  • Lightning
  • Dressing for the field
  • Staying found
